Some Awesome Slide About Redis #2

Scaling Gowalla

I try to browsing about Redis and found an interesting slide, it came from Richard Schneeman who works for Gowalla (even gowalla is not up anymore, it’s great lesson for me), they use redis on their stack. And here’s some lesson i’ve got from them.

  • They use Redis to store likes and analytics. Very fast response, 50 query per page views and it need about 1ms per query (so fast).
  • And should you use NoSQL? which one? (pick the right tool based on your case)
  • Know your data type (to use simple counter in redis is just use INCR)
  • And, use both RDBMS and NoSQL.

It will fail. Keep it simple.
